The city’s Democratic runoff primary election results were certified this week by the local election commission.
The second Democratic primary was held on Feb. 27 with incumbents Mayor Diane Delaware and Ward 4 Alderman Aubry Brent Jr. earning the majority vote.
Samuel Griffin Norquist, 96, passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his family Wednesday, March 7, 2018. Born March 9, 1921, he was the son of Judge Rayner Reid Norquist and Sarah Griffin Norquist.
Hugh L. Mathews III, 63, of Benton passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Baptist Medical Center Yazoo.
Ethel “Sister” Coghlan Cliburn passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at The Sharkey-Issaquena Community Hospital in Rolling Fork.
Linda C. Wills passed peacefully at the University of Mississippi Medical Center on March 4, 2018 at the age of 70.
A memorial service will be held at her home on March 17 at 3 p.m. - weather permitting.
