Hundreds of people from all over Yazoo and Madison counties gathered at Parkview Church of God on Wednesday to hear testimonies about the impact of drugs on young people and their families.

The fire on Old Benton Road that forced firefighters and other emergency responders to work around the clock to contain is now 100 percent contained.  The blaze began with a house fire and quickly spread into the surrounding woods.

Update: At 4 p.m. Tuesday, Yazoo County Emergency Management Director Jack Willingham said the fire is under control, and the current priority is ensuring that is doesn't flare up again.

The Yazoo Elite 10u basketball team recently competed in the City of Jackson's Spring Basketball league, finishing with a 7-2 record.

An enormous crowd was present Wednesday morning for the grand opening of Walmart in Yazoo City. Among those speaking at the event were former Gov. Haley Barbour and Mayor Diane Delaware. See Saturday's edition for more details.

Daniel Harris Ables, 84, of Benton passed away Friday, March 24, 2017 at The State Veterans Home in Kosciusko. 
Abe was a U. S. Army Veteran, an insurance agent with Stricklin-King Funeral Home, and a member of Scotland Baptist Church.
