For many years, Dot Smith of Yazoo City had battled indigestion, but this past fall, her heartburn, acidosis feeling at the top of Smith’s chest was different.
As the orphans lined up at the gigantic gumbo pot, each one was eager to receive a spoonful of corn grits.
It all began when she was a little girl riding a stick horse.

Yazooans hoping for a white Christmas got the opposite as temperatures were in the 70s for most of the day. The unusually warm weather was frustrating for deer hunters, but it made for good fishing.

There wasn’t an empty parking spot in downtown Bentonia. 
A few farmers and cattlemen even circled the main strip of the small town a few times, hoping to find a spot to ease their trucks into without getting too far away.

Sammy Luke Sr., 62, of Yazoo City passed away Saturday, January 14, 2017 at The University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was the Purchasing Clerk for The Yazoo County Road Department and a member of Louise Baptist Church.
